This seminar will use case studies to provide an overview of the tools available to diagnose chronic kidney disease (CKD) early, including the kidney biomarker symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA). There will also be a discussion of the International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) recommendations for diagnosing, staging, and managing CKD. Emphasis will be placed on treatments that have been shown to be effective at controlling clinical signs and impacting survival time of dogs and cats with CKD.
Understand the diagnostic tools available for the diagnosis of early chronic kidney disease.
Use the IRIS CKD Staging Guidelines to appropriately stage patients with CKD in order to better tailor further diagnostics and treatments for their individual CKD patients.
Use serum SDMA concentrations to not only facilitate early diagnosis of CKD but also to modify and improve treatment of CKD.
