Vector-borne Disease Screening Using Available Diagnostic Panels: What Am I Missing?
A variety of diagnostic methods are available for vector-borne diseases. Knowing which to use and when depends on an understanding of both the infecting organism and the test itself. This seminar will present new findings on the clinical value of comprehensive test methods that are currently available in-clinic and at reference laboratories.
• Understand different diagnostic methodologies including cytology, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), cell cultures, and immunoassays.
• Understand how pathophysiology and epidemiology can affect the sensitivity and specificity of a diagnostic test.
• Understand the benefits and the limitations of using diagnostic panels for vector-borne infections.
• Learn how comprehensive testing methods improved the detection of vector-borne diseases in a recent study conducted in Southern California.
