Evolving Preanesthetic Care With Innovations – Part I
Dogs and cats, especially older patients, often undergo anesthesia for common problems such as dental disease. Part one of this two-part series provides recommendations for best practice preanesthetic evaluation as part of overall preventive/wellness care. Topics will include using the minimum laboratory data base including thyroid hormone testing given the prevalence of thyroid disease in older patients. In addition, evaluation of the cardiopulmonary system which can include screening ECG, radiography, and proBNP evaluation when indicated will be covered.
