This session provides a comprehensive overview over the diagnosis of
pancreatitis in dogs and cats. Clinical signs of both acute and chronic
pancreatitis will be discussed. Various imaging modalities will also be
discussed. Emphasis will be placed on various assays for serum lipase
measurements—both enzymatic assays that measure serum lipase activity as
well as immunologic assays that measure serum pancreatic lipase
immunoreactivity. The clinical usefulness of cytology and histopathology
will also be briefly discussed.

Determine a rational nutritional plan for patients with acute or chronic pancreatitis.
Understand the mechanism of action of new treatments for pancreatitis.
